Dasavatharam Music - First Impressions
Posted on Apr 27, 2008 under Friends, General, Movies |I can’t resist this post even after i decided not to write anything about cinema .I still has this question in my head “What Jackie chan has to do with this movie?”.I am amazed with the publicity stunt done for this film.Already there are lot of rumors about the budget of this film which estimates around 120-200 crores. But why Jackie?Does it make any sense to the average tamil film fan who look for a entertainer for this summer holiday? Is the presence of jackie will shoot up the audio sales?I don’t find any logical relation for this rather than a simple publicity ,which doesn’t need him(Jackie) as kamal and BigB who was another guest for that function have enough to pull the crowd’s attention.Let’s leave this, it’s all “Oscar Ravichandran’s” money for which he has all the freedom to spent. These are some of the tit bits about the film.
- The timeline starts from 12 AD and travels to present.
- Several heroines and technicians were sacked during the course of project.
- For the first three minutes they have spent around 3crores.
- Kamal did the vocal for all the 10 roles which includes two female leads.
- Malika Sherawat is again in Tamil for an item number.
Today i got the songs and let me give my first views .I will rate this music as a below par quality for a film which has created tons and tons of hype for which budget is more than 100 crores.”Katai Thirakum Savi than Katru” is the pick of mine, with Kamal’s deceiving baritone this stand out first, but the remix is just a fast forward ,in which Himesh kills the little bit of Tamil left out by “Udit Narayanan” .Udit Narayanan will be the happy man as now he stand second in the tamil language killers list .One particular line is “Veelvathu yarhinum valvathu nadakatum ” ,i don’t find any good words to praise his excellency.”Kallai matum kandal” by Hariharan is a good song for both it’s music and lyrics.”Mukunda Mukunda” by Sadana Sargam is a good devotional song.Kamal did a bit of mimicry at the end of this song like an old lady, don’t miss that.”Kaa Karupanukum” song has good beats but tamil lyrics were not good as the english lyrics, simply having english lyrics would have been a good job.Watch out for mallika for this song on Big Screen.”Ulaga nayagane” is a BIS marked masala song having nothing more or less .This is just for the sake of praising kamal’s intelligence .All 10 roles dance along with K.S in this song.
All the song’s seems to be situational except the mallika’s item number. So music won’t have much impact in deciding the films result .I expected a kamal film as this is his own story, but the movie seems to be a K.S film which is good for the Producer. So i feel this movie won’t have much complex screenplays but it will entertain you well.Rather than expecting a “Virumandi” from Kamal expect a “PanchaTandiram” this time.
Note:I will rate Kuruvi’s song better than this, as it was what i expected in a vijay film.who knows kuruvi might be a super duper hit!

Looks like its an e-adichan copy of a famous film Transporter.
So if you have high hopes you may need to hold you heart if you have already saw Transporter.

Ganesh,
Thanks for the links.I am just making the point that kuruvi’s songs are up to my expectations unlike Dasavathar’s songs.

hey there david!
Just a quick mention that even Mallika’s song sung by Shalini is a situational one.apparently none of the songs are simply there…

I think who says kuruvi’s songs are better than DASA. i think you should clean your ears. For the gods sake dont compare it with Kuruvi

waran,
you may be an ardent fan of kamal ji.but from a common man perspective(myself!) kuruvi songs were better, but now the box office results show the standard of the movie. But wait for the DASA to show up.Kamal has a great track record of giving negative surprises to a fan than vijay. But again don’t feel i am comparing the skills of both actors.

Well, you disappoint me with your taste. Kuruvi’s songs were a pain to my ears.
1. Dan Dan Darna - Pure headache
2. Kuruvi Kuruvi Adicha - Theme music rocks!
3. Palanathu Palanathu - Average (except for sensational dance)
4. New year - God knows what Yogi B sings, headache
5. Thaen Thaen - Super duper song, very good melody!!
6. Mozha Mozha - Good song - Copy of Apdi Podu, nothing new
Dasavathaaram -
‘Living Legend’ Kalaignani Padmasri Ulaganayagan Dr. Kamal Hassan’s Magnum opus.
1. Kallai Mattum Kandaal - ‘Good’ ah? THAARU MAARU SONG! If you say this is average, i guess you must be a naive person to music
2. Mukunda Mukunda - DITTO. What I mentioned above.
3. Oh Ho Sanam (Kamal Sir) - BEAUTIFULACEOUS song, Nice Western Interludes.
4. Oh Ho Sanam (HR) - Oh please! Tapori guy sucks big time.
5. Ulaga Nayagane - Song made specially for fans like me. THAARU MAARU THALAIVA!!!!
6. Kaa Karupanukkum - Different genre, type of fast paced Caribbean Calypso song, with Bongos and a Typical US Stripbar song.
Music could have been better (I personally wanted A.R.Rahman or Ilayaraja to score music).
And I’m not comparing acting skills. Kamal Sir is actor par excellence and true Kalai vaarisu of Thespian Chevalier Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan. Vijay is still young and has to or can learn Tons and tons from either Thalaivar Superstar or Nammavar Kamal Sir.

Dasavatharam movie is like stupid!!!Better give the allocated budget for the movie to shankar. He might come out with better idea. The movie SUCKS!!!

Mr.Nothing,
I think you dont have NOTHING in you head to judge DASA. Shankar can only allocate most of his budget money in songs. only because of big star the movie runs, same story concept. if there is no good star the money will run from the producer(eg.BOYS).
